  • From the UK: Eltham College, Hurstpierpoint College
  • From Australia: Melbourne Grammar School, Scotch College

Sunday 20 July marked the first Edwin Doran International Hockey tournament, hosted at Melbourne Grammar School. The new artificial sports fields used for interschool sports as well as community hockey, offered the perfect environment for the best playing characteristics for hockey with fierce competition, quick sticks and teams eager to show off their newly honed skills.

Led by Captain Rob Cope, Hurst Boys made convincing wins against hosts Melbourne Grammar School and also secured a victory against Scotch College; 5-0 and 1-0 respectively. Congratulations to John Dean Mooney, Hurst’s Player of the Tournament.

Eltham’s U18s equally registered two victories. Their 1st XI were on fire, scoring 5 and conceding 0. Special mentions to James Morrison who bagged 3 and Jack Colegate who took the other 2.

As the sun came out things began to heat up both on and off the pitch. The final match saw the home teams combine to create an ‘Australian’ XI side that took on the visiting teams playing together as an ‘England’ XI. Eltham & Hurstpierpoint combine to make an 'England' XI to play 'Australia.' England U18s went on to secure a 2-0 victory against the home nation in a faced-paced game.

"The boys were outstanding both on and off the pitch and what was very evident is that the future of Eltham College Hockey is in good hands. This really was the trip of a lifetime."

Edwin Doran Sports Tours would like to thank the tournament hosts, Melbourne Grammar School and the PTA who supported this fantastic event with their warm hospitality, unprecedented generosity and a traditional Aussie BBQ.
