In preparation for the Schools Cup, Larne Grammar School attended a rugby training camp in Portugal, in December operated by Edwin Doran Sports Tours. The squad visited the Algarve where they undertook some intensive training sessions using the excellent facilities of the Alfamar Sports Resort before they headed up to Lisbon, where they played CDUL one of the top Rugby teams in Portugal; both matches were very competitive and played in great rugby spirit. Larne “A” squad lost narrowly to CDUL “A” by 20-19” while LARNE “B” squad defeated CDUL “B” by 27-22.
The Schools Cup is the world’s second oldest rugby competition and has been competed for every year since 1876. It is run by the Ulster Branch of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and the traditional St Patrick’s Day Final at Ravenhill is one of the great occasions in the rugby calendar and eagerly anticipated by all followers of the game.
Edwin Doran Sports Tours wishes all schools the best of the luck in remaining rounds of the competition.
