I had a good Geordie schooling (though only in rugby and cricket as I did little else!) before heading south to Chester to earn a 'Desmond' (2.2) in Sports Science and Geography. I took a year out to play rugby in Canada, New Zealand and Oz before becoming a 'Southern softie' to work for Edwin (the things I've done for that man!), having finally accepted that I'd never play for England.
It's been a huge privilege to see so much of the sporting world, while meeting such a wide range of interesting people along the way and sharing a pint or three with most of them! Antarctica is the only continent to have eluded me and that’s only until it thaws enough to put up rugby posts.
Favourite sporting destination
Argentina – for the warmth of its people and their competitive spirit.
Favourite personal sporting moment
Playing Rugby for England Colleges in 1991; doing my own ‘round the world tour’ playing club rugby in Vancouver, Wellington and Melbourne in 1996/97; taking a hat-trick in a league game for Corbridge CC; drinking in the ‘atmosphere’ before the last Lions test this summer; Headingly 1981; Sydney 2003; and, of course, our incredible London Olympics.
