Las Vegas

DESTINATION INFORMATION

The 24-hour entertainment capital of the world!

If you are in western USA, you must see it. ONCE. The glitzy 'Strip' has the best attractions. The Mirage has an impressive simulated volcano erupting every 30 minutes. It is surrounded by a lagoon with 54 waterfalls cascading from the outside. Circus Circus has incredible circus acts performing in a tent-like interior whilst in the giant dome behind the hotel, the Glam Slam Canyon amusement park hosts a roller coaster, flume rides, replica dinosaurs and a water ride.

From the Stratosphere Tower's 106th floor, you'll be knocked out by the incredible views over downtown Las Vegas. Wet'n'Wild water theme park will give you so many adrenalin rushes on thrilling rides like Banzai-Banzai, Black Hole, The Bomb Bay, Blue Niagara, The Royal Flush and Raging Rapids.

As well as the glitz and glamour, you should not miss the opportunity to take an excursion to see the natural wonders of The Grand Canyon in all its stunning glory.  The great chasm carved over millennia through the rocks of the Colorado Plateau, is one of the world's most awe-inspiring views, especially from the new Skywalk, opened in March 2007. Approximately 30 miles outside the city, The Hoover Dam,  built during the Depression, when thousands of men and their families came to Black Canyon to tame the Colorado River. It took less than five years, in a harsh and barren land, to build the largest dam of its time. Nowadays, close to one million people visit the Dam to wonder at this feat of engineering every year.

Las Vegas really should be known as 'excess city'.  I have never been to anywhere else in the world where everything is so focussed on dragging money out of your pocket.  As soon as you get off the aircraft, the sounds of slot machines come off the public address system, and there are even machines in the airport.  Never has money been more important to people than in Las Vegas.  Edwin Doran
