DESTINATION INFORMATION
Los Angeles, known simply as 'L.A.' worldwide, is the largest city in the state of California and the second-largest in the United States. The Los Angeles metro area has been a 'boom town' since the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1876, and becoming a gateway to a magnificent diversity of immigration from throughout the Pacific Rim and Latin America.
Originally christened by wandering Spanish missionaries in 1781 as 'El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula' (The Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels by the Porciuncula), was, mercifully, shortened to Los Angeles.
Frank Lloyd Wright famously said "Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles". The amount of things to see and do in The City of Angels is practically endless.
The city of Santa Monica, with its beautiful beaches and small town atmosphere, has long been a hideaway for Hollywood stars. It was not accidental that the automobile culture and the film and aerospace industries took root in the area, or that almost every conceivable - and a few inconceivable - fads, fashions and styles have at some time or other sprouted in the city.
Basking in a sunny, semitropical climate, and blessed with a diversity of cultures, Los Angeles mixes and matches different settings and scenes with a singular style. The city offers a dizzying array of attractions. The latest hot fashions can be found in bargain centres and boutiques catering for every whim and budget.
The famous Hollywood sign stands as a constant reminder of the film industry. The streets and beaches are used as locations, though most of it happens behind the well-guarded gates of the various studios scattered across the city.

ACCOMMODATION
You'll be accommodated in either billets or hotels. The deciding factor will be when you travel. If you are a school and are touring in their school term, most of your accommodation will be in billets. There will be some hotel accommodation as well so that you'll have the benefit of being with your friends. Depending on your games, you'll either be accommodated at a beach destination like Santa Monica or closer to Disneyland at Anaheim.
If you are travelling out of school time, your accommodation will be in hotels like the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica. Housed in one of Santa Monica's tallest buildings (18 floors), this business-minded hotel offers reliable, quality accommodation in a style and attitude a notch above an average midrange chain hotel, plus it's in a great location.
A blend of European elegance and Californian style, this hotel offers mountain or ocean view rooms. The beach and shopping at the Third Street Promenade is just two blocks away. Onsite Toppers is the rooftop Mexican restaurant serving great Margaritas and offering live entertainment. However, the real draw is the ocean view, particularly at sunset. There is also a coffee shop.
The rooms have bathrooms with Italian marble tile, TV, minibar and air conditioning, and other services available include laundry, safe deposit, bar, computer facilities, hairdresser, Internet access, disabled access, non-smoking rooms, and a Fitness Club.
Our policy in choosing hotels is quite different to our competitors, most of whom concentrate on price. We're after location, quality and value for money and the Huntley fits these requirements perfectly.
