25 years ago, Brisbane was a small town without skyscrapers, where everything took on a leisurely air ... the shops even had those wonderful awnings outside to shield their customers from the heat.
The 1988 Exposition changed all that and placed Brisbane proudly amongst Australia's great capital cities. Built on the Brisbane River, the transformation has been fantastic.
The inflow of Australians from other parts of the country to Brisbane is the highest of any state. Why? The quality of life! It has several interesting districts, a good street cafe scene, a great riverside park, a busy cultural calendar and a thriving nightlife.
Known locally as Bris Vegas, the city is renowned for its sun and the brash, glitzy hordes that follow it, but it's also a thriving arts capital, with dozens of theatres, cinemas, concert halls, galleries and museums. Why not shop at one of the many markets in Brisbane, where you will find Art and Craft markets, Farmers markets, or Flea markets for bargain hunters.
For something a little different, how about some off-road karting in Nerang. This 12-lap buggy session including timed speed trials, awards trophies for the winners. Participants are fully protected in buggy suits and full race helmet. Great for groups, with a minimum group size of 10 people, and a maximum of 30. Suitable for participants 12 years and above, you should allow approx. 2.5 hours based on 20 people.
