Adelaide

DESTINATION INFORMATION

Adelaide is a city with visual harmony and a classical elegant style.  In 1837, Colonel William Light  had  broad streets laid out, surrounded by generous green parkland. The result is a place where traffic seldom jams, the inner-city highlights are easily walkable and it's virtually impossible to get lost.

Located beside the River Torrens between the Adelaide Hills and waters of Gulf St Vincent, the city has its own quiet confident air of individuality that gives it instant appeal.

Adelaide is blessed with a good life that no other Australian city can match, which combine to make it a great city to visit, whether staying in the city or by the sea.   It has preserved its heritage and its links with the past, offering a wealth of tourism experiences that are readily accessible from the city.  The food and wine encounters start right in the city centre with the National Wine Centre, Adelaide Central Market, vibrant cafes, and restaurants boasting some of Australia's best chefs.

Surrounded by not only parklands, allowing the city to breather, but also sports fields, a top-class golf course, walking and cycling tracks and beautiful gardens, there is a unique sense of space.  Suburban parks, street tree canopies and private gardens make this an urban place that's surprisingly close to nature.

For approaching 20 years, Edwin Doran Sports Travel have established very close ties with Westminster School in Adelaide.  They have visited the UK on several occasions during this time with cricket, hockey, netball, music and educational tours.  They have also frequently and generously acted as hosts to several UK schools who have visited Adelaide.

A short distance away at St Kilda, you can ride a restored tramcar along a two kilometre track at the beach front, and visit the museum, which houses  operational examples of each type of tram previously used on the Adelaide system.  Also on display are static examples of each type of trolley bus used,  a gallery of photographs, maps and historical information.
