The Indian state of Goa is situated along the western Indian coastline, approximately 105 km long and 65 km wide, and shares its border with the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The climate is warm through out the year, and is at its most pleasant from October to February. The temperature climbs as high as the high-20's C. to mid-30's from May to August, although this is the monsoon season. During this time, fishing, swimming and watersports are not allowed.
For those who prefer more sybaritic pleasures, the palm-fringed beaches of Goa have a European charm all of their own. Goa's infamous hippies are being replaced by backpackers, Indian visitors and package tourists. Full moon parties still take place in Anjuna, although they are smaller and less authentic than in the heady days of the 1960s.
Anjuna is famous throughout Goa for its Wednesday flea market, and if you are looking for beautiful, quiet beaches, head for the South between Benaulim and Palolem.
Goa also has several wildlife sanctuaries, including Bondla in the hills of western Ghats, where wild boar and sambar can be seen in their natural habitat. The region is famous for its food as well as for its colourful festivals, including the spectacular Carnival held on the three days leading up to Ash Wednesday.
Travel back to the 6th century whilst walking through a generation of mystical temples, exquisite carvings and the culture of Hampi - the long lost empire. Swim and bathe with the elephants at the Shanti nature reserve, or scuba dive and surf in Bagmalo. The Aguada Fort, the Portuguese architecture in Old Goa, the Dudhsagar Falls and Panaji are all worth a visit.
As there are no non-stop scheduled service flights from the UK to Goa, we use the best available package holiday companies to offer our customers value for money products. You will fly on charter flights which will probably have a little less leg room than a scheduled flight, but the value for money is excellent.
