Declared a Natural Heritage of Humanity Site by UNESCO, the Iguazú National Park, incorporating the Iguazú Falls, is the main attraction in this region.
The Iguazú Falls fittingly get their name from the Guarani Indian word meaning 'great waters'. The deep flowing waters of the Parana River fall from a height of 70 metres (1.5 times higher than Niagara Falls) through 275 falls over 2.7 kms. The frontier with Brazil goes through the Gargantua del Diablo (The Devil's Throat). The National Park is full of exotic sub-tropical vegetation which surrounds the falls and is home to 2,000 plant species and over 400 species of birds.
It is possible to take boat rides, walks, 4x4 truck and train rides around the National Park (details below), as well as kayaking, canoeing and other watersports.
Located in Foz de Iguazú is a bridge linking Paraguay to Brazil, the Bridge of Friendship, and in nearby Parana, try to take the opportunity to see a latin american dinner dance show, and there are several to choose from.
