DESTINATION INFORMATION

Situated where it is, over the years the island has been a tempting target for explorers and invaders, and has therefore been left with a legacy of European, North African and British influences.   With a history boasting 6,000 years of civilisation, every square inch of its land, its temples and monuments bear witness to these past civilisations.

Malta enjoys a perfect cllimate, with mild winters and a hot summer season.  Rain falls between September and April, and nearly never in summertime, when even the hottest days are cooled by the  sea breezes.

The smaller island of Gozo is a popular day-trip, with all the sites able to be packed into one day.  Aptly referred to as the island where time stands still because of the tranquillity it exudes, Gozo is greener than Malta and more rural allowing for sweeping views of terraced fields, glimmering shore-lines, and imposing churches. Comino, a mile long and uninhabited, is where you will find The Blue Lagoon.  Once supposed to have been the hideout of pirates, the clear turquoise waters of this sheltered cove must be seen to be believed.

Mdina, the 'silent city', is perched on a rocky outcrop on the southwest of the island.  Once the old political centre, today it is visited by people wandering around the quiet, narrow streets.  Rabat is the town settlement outside the walls.  Mdina's main square is dominated by St Paul's Cathedral, worth a visit to see the huge fresco of St Paul's shipwreck, whilst in St Paul's Grotto in Rabat, visit the cave where St Paul is said to have preached during his time on the island.

FIXTURES

We have been using the same company in Malta to arrange most of our fixtures.  The only exception is cricket as the local cricket authorities require us to ask them for fixtures primarily because of the popularity of the island for this sport during the cooler season in the UK,  This work particularly well as it means that the possibility of too many tours arriving at peak period is avoided.

A similar situation operates with the Maltese Netball Association, as we liaise closely with them to ensure there are no clashes, especially when there are festivals on the island which tend to tie up some local schools.  Malta is very popular for netball tours.

Antoine Azzopardi has been our primary contact for quite some time.  His knowledge of the island is first-class, as are his contacts within the school and club sports.  Fixtures are such a major part of overseas rouring and having Antoine in Malta has been very beneficial when a fixture has dropped out and we have need a replacement.  Their level of service is very high as they make frequent visits to ur customers, and even attend some matches.
